Eating Clean On The Go

It’s no surprise that our lives are busy.  For most of us, we are running non-stop from the time we get up in the morning until the time we hit the bed at night.  And yet according to the eat clean principles, you should be eating every 3-4 hours. So how are we to eat clean in our busy lifestyles? The key is to TAKE IT WITH YOU. If you don’t pack a cooler each day filled with the foods you need to get through they day, you will have a hard time achieving your health goals.

If you were to go camping for the weekend, you would pack enough food to last you the entire weekend right? Why is it then, when you go to work for eight hours, you don’t plan ahead? Maybe you think that eight hours is not enough time to worry about, but if you are following the eat clean diet, you should have 2-3 meals during this time.  Fast food becomes your only option when the hunger sets in, or snacks from the machine, and this habit will sabotage your health!

First, you need to purchase a cooler large enough to hold enough food for the entire day including an ice pack.  There are so many options in coolers now! You can get coolers that are also a fashion accessory, which of course I love! 🙂  You will also need reusable containers to seal your food in. So what do you put in your cooler?  For most you will need to plan three meals in your cooler for the day.  Two smaller snack-size meals and a larger lunch portion meal.  Make sure that you are packing lean protein and complex carbohydrates. Vary what you pack daily, so that you don’t get bored with your food. And don’t forget your water bottle!

I know that we are all busy, and you may not feel that you have time to pack food every day. That is why you NEED TO PLAN. Having a plan is essential to handling hungry times and weight-management success. Sitting in your office, or wherever you spend your day, with only the options of fast food, vending machines, doughnuts, etc is just simply not worth it! Here are some time-saving tips to help packing your cooler worry free.

1. Make a little extra at dinner every night, so that you have planned leftovers for the next day. This will save time, and it will help with boredom by varying your meals.

2. Hard boil a dozen eggs on the weekend to have for the next week.

3. Wash and cut up your produce as soon as you get home from the store.  This will allow you to grab and go when getting your cooler ready.

4.Pack your cooler the night before and keep it in the refrigerator.  The next morning all you’ll have to do is throw in an ice pack and go.

Here is what is packed in my cooler for today:

(I ate Breakfast at home at 7:00am.)

10:00 am Organic Greek Blueberry Yogurt with a Tabelspoon of Granola & a Red Grapefruit

1:00 pm Organic Spinach Salad topped with Organic Strawberries, Organic Blueberries, Slivered Almonds and 1/2 Tablespoon Organic Raspberry Vinegrette Dressing & Grilled Chicken strips & a Mandarin Orange

4:00 pm Celery, Carrot Sticks and Organic All Natural Peanut Butter & Sliced Turkey on a Whole-Grain Deli Flat & an Apple

(I will eat dinner at home at 7:00pm.)
