When we are feeling stressed or down, we look for comfort and distraction. Many people turn to the wrong things like food, sleep, or alcohol when they are feeling stress, anxiety, or depression.  This is a dangerous habit leading to all kinds of problems like obesity and addictions. Exercise is the best tension reliever.  Physical activity provides an outlet for those negative emotions like frustration, irritability, and anger, leaving us with a more positive mood and outlook.

Any type of exercise from weight lifting to aerobics can fight symptoms of stress! Not only does exercise do your body good, but it does your mind good too.  Physical activity releases endorphins – your “feel good” neurotransmitters.  Exercise also helps you release tension and irritation.  You can take out the days frustrations with a good game of racquetball, a relaxing yoga session, or a strenuous strength training session.  When you do this regularly, you will begin to notice that you are able to remain calm in stressful situations.  You will look forward to your workouts as a form of stress relief!
